Various companies, organisations and educational institutions have taken on this challenge and have therefore come up with models in order to provide structure to the process of <a class=\"link link--blue fontWeight-4\"href=\"https:\/\/marvelapp.com\/blog\/design-thinking-isnt-the-problem-human-centered-design\/\">human centred design<\/a> or design thinking.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginTop-l marginBottom-m c-black lineHeight-xl fontSize-xl fontWeight-5\">Chilli Con Carne and the Double Diamond<\/h3>\n<p class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginBottom-m paddingBottom-s c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">When you cook a chilli con carne for the first time, you might start off with a recipe that appeals to you. Once you have burned your tongue a couple of times, you either go easy on the spices, or you even spice it up as you can\u2019t get enough of the burning. I like this framework for its structure, clarity and dynamic.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginTop-l marginBottom-m c-black lineHeight-xl fontSize-xl fontWeight-5\">Point of departure and basics<\/h3>\n<p class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginBottom-m paddingBottom-s c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">The core question in almost any creative or design project is how to get from point A \u2013 \u201cDon\u2019t know\u201d or \u201cCould be\u201d \u2013 to point B \u2013 \u201cDo know\u201d or \u201cShould be\u201d. During a <strong class=\"c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-5 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">diverging phase<\/strong>, you try to <strong class=\"c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-5 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">open up<\/strong> as much as possible without limiting yourself, whereas a <strong class=\"c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-5 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">converging phase<\/strong> focuses on <strong class=\"c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-5 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">condensing and narrowing<\/strong> your findings or ideas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginBottom-m paddingBottom-s c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">If you google the Double Diamond you are bound to find various interpretations and also varying wordings. I am going to stick to the version above as its wording allows flexibility and agility in its application in my opinion. Or in other words, it is the most appealing recipe to me.<\/p>\n<p class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginBottom-m paddingBottom-s c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">The four phases of the Double Diamond may be simplified and merged into two main stages of the process.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s list list--unordered marginBottom-l lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s list list--unordered marginBottom-l lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">\n<li><strong class=\"c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-5 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">Stage 1\u200a\u2014\u200aDoing the right thing <\/strong>(Diamond 1\u200a\u2014\u200aDiscover and Define)<br \/>\nWhatever you do, you ought to look for the right problem to solve or the right question to ask before you try to do so. List as many elements as you can, find characteristics, define areas of interest and extremes, list places, people (personas), experiences that are related and can be explored.<\/li>\n<li>Before you dive into your research, <strong class=\"c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-5 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">cluster your findings into topics<\/strong> to get an overview and you might have to limit yourself in terms of the scope you want to research.<\/li>\n<li>Dive into your <strong class=\"c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-5 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">research<\/strong>.
