Looking back to when I first started designing, if there was a single thing I could go back and tell myself, that would be to train my design eye, my ability to critique and identify good design.<\/p>\n

A good design eye oftentimes exceeds the ability of the designer. This is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, this means that your eye can help you discern improvements in your design over time. By developing your taste and ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in designs, you end up setting a high bar for your work.<\/p>\n

So then the question is, how do you develop your eye?<\/p>\n

A simple strategy<\/h2>\n

Here are some things that you can do to train your eye.<\/p>\n

Browse design inspiration<\/h3>\n

Keep a folder and save designs that inspire you over the course of the week. At the end of the week, look through your folder and ask yourself some of these questions. You don\u2019t have to answer each one of those questions for every design, but do keep them in the back of your mind.<\/p>\n
