All good user interfaces incorporate proper whitespace values into all page elements from top to bottom. Elements of whitespace in GUI are:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s list list--unordered marginBottom-l lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">\n<li>Margins, paddings and gutters<\/li>\n<li>Space around graphics and images<\/li>\n<li>Line-spacing and letter-spacing within text content, space between columns<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginBottom-m paddingBottom-s c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">The whitespace on a page can be every bit as important as the space occupied by UI elements because even empty space serves a purpose and supports the visual integrity of a layout. Whitespace serves 4 essential functions:<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginTop-xl marginBottom-l c-black lineHeight-xl fontSize-xl fontWeight-5 breakPointM-lineHeight-xxl breakPointM-fontSize-xxl\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\">1. Improving Comprehension<\/h2>\n<p class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginBottom-m paddingBottom-s c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">Whitespace should make both scanning and reading content easier and more predictable.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginTop-xl marginBottom-l c-black lineHeight-xl fontSize-xl fontWeight-5 breakPointM-lineHeight-xxl breakPointM-fontSize-xxl\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\">Prioritize Legibility And Readability<\/h2>\n<p class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginBottom-m paddingBottom-s c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">Space between text is important because it helps to define the page content itself. As was pointed out by Dmitry Fadeyev:<\/p>\n<p class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginBottom-m paddingBottom-s c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\"><span class=\"long-quote\">\"Properly using whitespace between paragraphs and in the left and right margins can increase comprehension up to\u00a020%\"<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"pageWrap pageWrap--s marginBottom-m paddingBottom-s c-slate lineHeight-l fontSize-l fontWeight-3 breakPointM-fontSize-xl breakPointM-lineHeight-xl\">Two important things to keep in mind when optimizing your text content are<em> paragraph margins <\/em>and <em>line spacing<\/em>(the space between each line). Line spacing can drastically improve the legibility of a body of text. Generally, the larger the <a class=\"link link--blue fontWeight-4\"href=\"https:\/\/marvelapp.com\/blog\/harmonious-spacing-system-faster-design-dev-handoff\/\">spacing<\/a>, the better experience the user will have whilst reading, although too much can break the unity and make the design disconnected. The lack of other elements will only make existing elements stand out more. Use whitespace to your advantage to draw wandering eyes onto certain page elements.
